The following five DVDs help us understand who our newcomers are and why they have come to the U.S. in recent years.  Discussion includes the most important economic, socio-political, and environmental factors both in the immigrant-sending countries and in the U.S. that have created the push away from the countries of origin and the pull toward the U.S. We look at immigrant resettlement and adjustment issues, as well as the impact our newcomers have had on the communities in which they live and work.

Latin America

This training unit provides a broad overview of immigration from Latin America, with specific focus on groups from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic.  Latinos are our country’s largest immigrant group and are predicted to comprise 25% of the total U.S. population by 2050.  The more that your businesses knows about our Latino newcomers, the greater will be your competitive advantage in the areas of recruitment, retention, and performance.

The Indian Sub-Continent

What accounts for the incredible surge in the Indian immigrant population in the last two decades?  Why are there so many Indians in the IT field?  This DVD will answer these questions and many, many more.  This unit includes an overview of the entire Indian Sub-Continent, but focuses primarily on Indian immigrants and the fascinating story of their entrance into the American mainstream.

Africa

What does it mean to be African-American?  Today, African immigrants representing many different language and cultural backgrounds are totally redefining the African-American experience.  For the first time in our nation’s history, more Africans are coming to the U.S. as immigrants than came to the U.S. during slave trade.  In this training segment, we review immigration patterns from across the African continent, and address the intriguing question of how recent African immigrants are impacting the African-American community today.

Price: $295                                      (19 Minutes)

Asia

Included in this unit is a brief history of Asian immigration to the U.S., with particular focus on Chinese, Filipino, Vietnamese, Cambodian, and Hmong immigrant groups.  Emigration from Asia to the U.S. has boomed since the mid-1980s and continues to accelerate.  Your business will want to know about both the immigrant and refugee populations from this part of the world, the strengths they bring with them, and the post-Vietnam War challenges that have shaped so many of their lives.

Price: $350                                      (49 Minutes)

The Middle East

Are all Arabs Muslim?  Are all Muslims Middle Eastern? This unit distinguishes Middle Eastern, Arab, and Islamic countries and populations from each other, and pays particular attention to immigrant groups from the Levant (Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Palestine, and Israel), the Arab Gulf, North Africa, and Iran.  Never before has it been as important as it is today that we understand who our Middle Eastern newcomers are and why they are in the U.S.  If you hire or serve Middle Easterners, you will want all of your managers and supervisors to have this vitally important information as they work to create an environment of trust and respect.
